does there exist a command i can put in an obeyfile or type in a
taskwindow that would tell the browser to fetch a certain web page?
(and launch the browser if it's not already running?)
e.g. *heyfetch <text string>
i'm trying to set up a Keystroke to do this from a selected bit in a
textfile. *wget is on the right line but of course fetches the stuff
only as text in a taskwindow.

Not sure if this is what you want, but ...
Open the page, menu over it, Page > Save Location > Acorn URI and
save this file to a suitable location. Double-clicking on this (or
making Keystroke pretend to do this) will open the page in NetSurf, as
long as NS is running or has been seen by the filer.

Note that this needs the *full* URI to work, so that the system knows which
application to pass the address to.

maybe i should be asking this part on c.s.a.apps, because it has to do

found it! i copied an unusual word in my Impression document to the
clipboard, then in a taskwindow did *show * to get a list of all
system variables. hundreds of 'em! then i did Suspend on the
taskwindow, moved to top, and searched for this word. behold, there
it is, held by the system variable Impulse$Selection
so now i can select a URL in my Impression doc, Sh-Ctrl-M makes
Keystroke issue *uridispatch http://<Impulse$Selection> and
Netsurf launches it.
(Impulse, i now recall, is the Computer Concepts behind-the-scenes
protocol by which operations such as mailmerge are done. i'm curious
now to know what else it can do.)
(i'm amazed at how many system variables there are! makes me think i
should do a purge sometime of all the stuff that gets loaded or looked
at at boot that i never use.)

I'm sure others will answer that but I was under the impression (hah!)
that Impulse started out as CC's replacement for the Arthur OS which they
decided was unable to run decent software on the Archimedes. RISC OS hit
the streets first but Impulse was retained to provide their proprietary
means of clipboard handling, for example.

Somewhere I had, maybe still have, the Impulse information sheet that CC

with the 32-bit version.
the module ImpulseII (version 0.17, dated 1991) is found within
several applications contained in the zipfile downloaded from you.
does the module not live in a common placed to be found by any app
that needs it?
if so, where does one find the present Impulse module on one's system?
i hunted through likely places in !Boot, especially !CCshared, with no
luck. *help impulse on my system shows version 0.20 dated 2003.

Sorry chaps - I ended up uploading the 'wrong' zip file. The zip
there now has the 32-bit module in a directory called 'module'. The
32-bit version is indeed 0.20 so you have it anyway, Jim.

New subject: I can not make sense of this.
When I receive an email with an attachment which tells me to click on
a subject it doesn't always down load as it used to and says OK(0.4s)
3/3 stylesheets 0/0 objects.
Please remember that I am visually impaired and not computer wise.

URIdispatch http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/
works in Organizer as a task alarm or in an obey file. I guess that's
what you're after. :-)
