Just found an interesting problem with part of the Wightlink IOW ferry
site with 22 May 2007 04:12 version.

Anybody any idea what's going on?

Same message on Firefox, IE7 reports that the site is probably undergoing
maintenance.

Sincere apologies, I missed the wrap in the URL so replied with a load of
rubbish. My answer should have been that I have no idea what's going on.

I tried it last week because the Red Funnel site was unusable with any
of the seven browsers I tried (including IE5.1, Netscape 7.0 and
Mozilla on a Mac). If WightLink had a usable web site they'd have got
my business instead.

The strange thing is that the page works fine in Oregano 1!

Still no idea but there is something odd here.
If I save the page to look at the way it is written, Page -> Save I get a
page that starts:

However the page when saved as a full save, Page -> Full save, is very

Both produce exactly the same effect when the page is rendered. If
however you save the page normally and change charset=UTF-16 to
charset=UTF-8 in the header the page renders apparently correctly.
Still mystified but at least I have a good idea of the ferry sailing
times ;-)>

Since then the development version of NetSurf changed:

Fix bugs in charset detection. Strip BOM from parser input, as it
confuses libxml. Ignore non-ASCII-compatible charsets declared in meta
tag (the parser defaults to 8 bit, so if it's managed to extract a meta
charset, then it must be ASCII-compatible, so a non-ASCII-compatible meta
charset is lies). Fixes WightLink timetable and 1726341.
Now the ferry times display correctly!
