Google error when using Netsurf??
by Roger Darlington
Using Netsurf, r12629, but also tried a different one, when entering
any text in the Google Search box, I get:
""
403 Thats an error.
Your client does not have permission to get URL
/cse?cx=!partner-pub-2827028264017539%3A8068601809&ie=UTF-8&q=help&btnG=Google+S
earch from this server. That's all we know.
""
But entering any text into Safari's Google search - it works OK.
Same computer (Windows 7, but in Netsurfs case I was running VRPC),
same ISP, same everything else.
I don't understand, although this is not necessarily a Netsurf error
(it wasn't there yesterday using the same Netsurf)...

Incorrect character display
by Bernard Boase
I get a regular email from BBC Music Magazine which normally has both
text and an HTML attachment. The HTML version of the email is readable
by either
- (A) opening the HTML attachment, or
- (B) clicking on a URL in the Text portion of the email
Since 25 May 2011 certain top-bit set characters no longer display
correctly via (A) while still displaying OK via (B).
So, for example, where the HTML has "â" (B) displays this correctly
as a single closing quote (apostrophe), but (A) displays the literal
string "â".
I notice that as of 25 May, their HTML <head> tag no longer includes
this code:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=UTF-8">
<title>BBC Music Magazine</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=UTF-8">
<title>Untitled Document</title>
The whole page looks pretty trad HTML with no use of CSS. So my
question is how come Netsurf displays the two identical versions (A)
and (B) differently? And indeed if I save out the correctly displayed
(B) version and load the file back into Netsurf the problem reappears.
Thoughts?

Caret incorrectly positioned
by Paul Sprangers
Dear all,
Since a few days, or better since the last three or four development
updates, NetSurfs caret gets incorrectly positioned. For example, if I try
to type something into Google, the caret floats a few centimetres
south-east from the actual text. Is this a known issue, that is being
worked on, or is something wrong on my particular setup?
Kind regards,
Paul Sprangers

Can't save as Draw
by Harriet Bazley
Version r12554 seemed to have lost the ability to save the
currently-displayed page in Draw format (Ctrl-Shift-F3), and when I
downloaded r12565 matters had changed but apparently not improved:
subsequent testing with both versions, however, suggests that the same
range of different failures is possible on both, presumably triggered by
random different program states.
So far, I've seen
(a) Path in savebox is updated, but no file is saved (most common)
(b) No file is saved but drawfile is instead plotted on the desktop
(c) No file is saved but random transparent texture is plotted over the
desktop
(d) Netsurf exits silently when key shortcut is pressed
Is anyone else seeing this sort of thing?

HTML Drop-down menu on Netsurf
by Graham Pickles
Not sure whether this is a request, a bug, or even what I am trying to
do is illegitimate! I would welcome any comments from anyone in the
mailing list.
My website http://www.whitbymuseum.org.uk written in XHTML has
both a drop down menu along the top and a slide-out menu down the
side. The drop down menu is implemented completely in HTML/CSS and
works satisfactorily on IE & Firefox. It does not operate
satisfactorily in Netsurf (r12493 - 19 Jun 2011) being run on my
RiscBook (Risc OS 4.02). The menus do not drop down. Both the XHTML
and CSS validates on W3C. I would be interested to know the reason as
I wish to develop this type of menu again and would like to develop
work using Risc OS with Netsurf as my browser.
The second (slide-out) menu requires javascript and I know that
currently javascript is not available in Netsurf so it is therefore no
surprise that this section doesn't work. Even if the javascript 'menu'
and all references is removed from the webpage this does not allow the
drop-down menu to work as anticipated (on Netsurf that is).
Regards,

Loading text files
by John Williams
I use NetSurf quite often to print out simple text files. I drag the file
to the iconbar icon, and the file is loaded and displayed in a mono-spaced
font (Corpus) which will print out quickly and effectively. The printing
width can be controlled by the window width.
This facility has been very useful for a quick printout!
The last version I have here which allows this is r12443, tho' I had a
hiatus in downloading until r12476.
This and later versions I have tried crash with:
Fatal signal received: Segmentation fault
I am assuming this happens everywhere and to everyone reproducibly, so have
not sent off the log file.
RISC OS 5.16 on Iyonix.
