peculiar F3 crash saving an Archive web page
by Jim Nagel
this crash is repeatable; i'm mystified:
www.archivemag.co.uk, click on the URLs link in the left-hand menu, it loads, mouse over the main frame, F3 to save it -- Netsurf immediately quits leaving hourglass running.
reload Netsurf, same sequence repeats.
this is shortly after a reboot. a few minutes ago it crashed from the
same F3 but froze the machine, hence the reboot.
from the same menu, the Booklets or Prices frames save with no
problem.
curiouser, menu Page>Save does the job fine, whereas F3 crashes.
RiscPC with OS 4.39, Netsurf r12436.

Generic 'font' styling in CSS
by Harriet Bazley
According to my reading of Chris Terran's StrongHelp CSS manual,
<p style="font: bold oblique sans-serif">
ought to be a shortcut for
<p style="font-family: sans-serif; font-weight: bold; font-style: oblique">
However, the former doesn't seem to do anything for me in Netsurf,
whereas the latter does.
http://www.netsurf-browser.org/documentation/progress
states that implementation of 'font (shorthand)' is complete (with the
exception of the not-yet-implemented 'font-' variant), so have I got the
syntax wrong?

Still not ok, here.
Using NetSurf, the website times-out (but the rest of the net seems to
work normally). wget also fails
wget: unable to resolve host address `www.netsurf-browser.org'
Does anyone else see a problem?

Nothing would surprise me, but something bizarre seems to be happening
here! On a Windows machine, Firefox 4 immediately connects to
http://www.netsurf-browser.org/downloads/development/netsurf.zip and
downloads the file, without problem. To me, this suggests that there is
no issue with the connection, or DNS.
However, using RPCemu, RO 4.39, running on the same Windows machine,
launching the download link, in NetSurf, leads to
Could not resolve host: www.netsurf-browser.org (Timeout while
contacting DNS servers)
and
*ping www.netsurf-browser.org
ping: unknown host www.netsurf-browser.org
Using the RiscPC, RO 6.20, produces exactly the same results as RPCemu.
Running on either RPCemu, or the RiscPC, NetSurf connects to other
websites, eg BBC, The Register, The Guardian, etc, without problem.
Moreover, all three machines are connected to the same LinkSys router,
so that their settings are the same.
How can www.netsurf-browser.org be hiding from RISC OS machines?

cookie association with specific windows?
by Mike Hobbs
In recent NS builds (past several months) I've noticed a
change in behaviour when logging in to our company bug
tracking system. At one time I could go through the
Login page and from then on I would be able to access
the whole bug tracking database through its web UI.
At some point that changed so that now,
a) if I go through the normal Login process it fails
to accept my credentials;
b) I have found that by going through an alternative URL
that throws up the Login page it results in success;
c) even though I've logged in, when I open a new NS
window by clicking on a link that should open a
bug report (e.g. http://jira/browse/XXX-nnn), it
tells me I'm not logged in;
d) if I enter the same URL as in c) above into the
window that was opened as per b) above, then it
displays the page without any trouble.
On the face of it, this looks like the cookie-stored
login status is associated only with the window that
was used for successful login. Is this expected?
Do other people see similar behaviour? Should I file
a bug report?
I'm currently using the 2.7 release on VRPC-SA but this
affects earlier releases and development builds.

login problem with Netsurf 2.7
by Jim Nagel
i was trying to use Netsurf 2.7 to log in to the control panel for one
of the websites i maintain, hosted by Neil Spellings:
https://glastonburyconservation.org.uk/cpanel
the Certificate dialogue comes up, OK that, the Authentication
dialogue comes up. type in the password, a few seconds later the
Authentication dialogue comes up again, type in password, repeat,
endless loop.
tried XP Firefox: got through but more fuss en route about
Certificate. with Fresco, i logged in with no problem.
so i downloaded the latest Netsurf test build, r12436 (2011-05-19),
and the problem has been cured.
haven't seen anyone else mention this on the list, so this is just for
info.

Google Groups
by Harriet Bazley
Have they changed the Google Usenet archive interface so that it is no
longer possible to post to Usenet groups without Javascript?
I tried it via Firefox, and character entry was at so abysmally glacial
a rate that it's possible every single keypress was being processed via
a script (to strip end of line spaces perhaps?)

XSRF Attempt detected!
by Harriet Bazley
I found myself completely unable to submit a bug report while logged
into the Sourceforge website this morning, as three attempts produced
only the error "XSRF Attempt Detected!", culminating in NetSurf's
crashing with a segmentation fault - after a tip-off from Martin I
eventually managed to submit the bug report by logging out and
submitting the form anonymously.
