frames
by Roger Darlington
I have downloaded the latest test build r12932, and find that it
treats frames in an entirely different way to what it test builds did
less than 3 months ago.
Positioning the mouse pointer over any one frame and rotating the
scroll wheel used to scroll only the frame that it was underneath it;
now it scrolls the whole caboodle, and reveals a previously unseen
blank frame at the bottom. (??)
It also scrolls (using the slider bars) much less smoothly, and rather
more jerkily.

accented characters in Google translate
by rickman@argonet.co.uk
There is a problem with accented characters in some webpage text
areas. (and as this note contains accented characters I fear it may
not be readable by all mail clients)
These two links demonstrate the problem.
Link (a) accepts accents, link (b) does not.
(a) http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt
(b) http://translate.google.com/
You can see the behavior by:- setting the language pairs to
Spanish/English, and pasting the following text
SILLÓN: respuesta positiva de Yoko Ono a John.
then clicking Translate.
For me, at any rate, the Google page replaces the accented character
by a question mark.
If I replace the accented "ø" by "O" Google manages to read it.
The Yahoo page works without complaint.
I think this is a NetSurf feature rather than Google's as on Linux
Firefox Google accepts the accents. And FWIW NetSurf has always
behaved this way.

NetSurf and eBay
by Harriet Bazley
How come *some* item pages on ebay.co.uk display a usable 'add to watch
list' link on the right-hand side - like this one
<http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130608393510>
(no, I was not going to buy that!) and some, like this
<http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HUGE-Ruby-idea-red-sterling-Silver-Gemstone-Rin...>
have only a javascript link?
And is there a reliable way of toggling between them?
(Hang on - I think I've answered my own question. It all depends on
whether you're logged in or not. If you're not logged, in it directs
you to a page where you can log in and save the item to your watchlist;
if you're logged in, it attempts to do the whole thing via Javascript.
It would be much more useful if it were the other way round (you have to
save the URL, then log out, then log in again) but it's a backdoor they
evidently forgot about when they were implementing their Javascript-only
features....)

Error converting PNG
by Dave Higton
Every picture I view from the Railway Herald site's Imaging Centre
causes "Error converting PNG" to flash briefly on the bottom line,
but only when the image is viewed for the first time - refreshing
the image, or going back to one recently visited, doesn't show the
message. The main image is always displayed successfully, though.
Example URL:
http://www.railwayherald.com/imaging.centre/showimage.php?image=214023&ga...
Any explanation?

BookMaker download oddity
by Nick Roberts
I've just had an email reporting a problem downloading BookMaker from
the web site ( http://www.bookmaker.riscos.org.uk/ - an alias
for http://tigger.orpheusweb.co.uk/bookmaker/) using NetSurf (r13161);
clicking on the download link had no effect.
The download worked when he tried with Oregano; and NetSurf would
download files from other sites with no problems.
I've tried, and also failed to download the zip file - but if I
adjust-clicked the link, the download window appeared and I could
download the file. It also works if you use the menu button over the
link and then follow Object -> Link -> Download Target
<Later>
After a bit more playing around, the problem seems to be that the link
is on a page that is part of a frameset.
NetSurf is perfectly happy to download the same file from the "No
frames" part of the web site, so I suspect an error in NetSurf.
Reported to the bug tracker as Artifact 3441539.

Search oddity on r13075 (plus at least 1 version prior)
by Jess Hampshire
Hi
When I try and search for text on a web page, the dialogue box accepts
the first letter and then disappears are searches for just that
letter.
Does anyone else have this issue? (Iyonix on both 5.16 and 5.17)
It works correctly on the default homepage.
On the positive side, I successfully did my voter registration online
with it.

Register log-in problems
by Richard Porter
Anyone having problems logging into The Register from NS?
I can log into my account and I can enter a password when posting a
comment, but other logging in forms just return me to the same page
with the password field empty.
Also whan I'm logged in the "Log out" and "Not you? Log in here" links
have a similarly ineffective result.
It's not a Javascript problem because I can't see any, so is it an NS
bug or a compatibility problem with the site? The pages concerned
validate successfully.
