Image positioning
by Paul Vigay
Is this a problem with NetSurf's CSS or something extra like Javascript or
something - although I've not looked at the source code in detail, I
suspect it's possibly NetSurf's handling of floating images.
All the articles on the Scientific American website have the main image
shifted over to the right, so that you can't read the text.

Parsing the document failed....
by Paul Vigay
When you go to http://www.rfidglobal.org/ NetSurf (build r5462) downloads
the page but then immediately comes up with a "Parsing the document failed"
error and all you get is a blank page.
I grabbed it using wget and although the HTML looks reasonable, NetSurf is
still unable to view the local copy either.
I'll submit a bug report, but wonder if this is a problem with the new
parser, as NetSurf 1.2 views the site ok.

At present, NetSurf on RISC OS supports no character sets other than
US-ASCII, ISO-8859-n, Windows-125n, UTF-8, and UTF-16. Anything else will
result in a parsing failure. This will be fixed, but not before I find a
way to debug RISC OS modules on an OS that isn't RISC OS.

Dealtime site
by John
Most of the many pages on the http://www.dealtime.co.uk/ site have text or
banners overwriting text, making the site difficult to navigate. Is this
down to their poor construction or a deficiency in NetSurf?

Hubbub as a standalone component for use by other developers in their
applications has not been released as it is currently missing some amount
of functionality and does not yet have a totally stable API. There are
other factors, too, but these are the main ones.
Test builds of NetSurf have indeed been using Hubbub since the 11th
August. That's because we:
a) don't desperately need the features that Hubbub is currently missing
(though they'll be useful once they appear)
b) are quite happy to fix NetSurf every time Hubbub's API changes
There is no release version of NetSurf that includes Hubbub. NetSurf 2.0,
when it is released, will include Hubbub.

New HTML parser integrated into NetSurf
by tennant@orpheusmail.co.uk
Dear Mr.Bell,
you say that Hubbub is still under active development and has not had an
official release, but the previous page on the website says that Netsurf
now uses Hubbub as of 11th August 2008. Should this say the Netsurf that
developers are working on now uses Hubbub, or was the parser released?

CNN news stories
by Paul Vigay
I've just noticed that NetSurf has stopped displaying the main news stories
on CNN. It used to work, but I'm not sure when it stopped working, as I've
only just tried it (using build r5404).
An example story is at
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/09/23/ahmadinejad.us/index.html?iref=...
You can see the header, footer, main title heading and highlights. In fact
you can pretty much see everything, except the main text of the story.
If you 'view source' you can see the text is all there, and it doesn't
appear to be within Javascript or comment tags. There are loads of SSI
tags, so I'm wondering if perhaps the new Parser in NetSurf is getting
confused over the number of comments or script sections - the code looks a
bit of a mess to me.
However, the main story text does appear to be all there, so I wonder if
NetSurf could be likely to find it. :-)

A new eBay problem :(
by John
I have just tried to log on to "My eBay" and have been confronted with a
new unwelcome message :
"You must have JavaScript enabled to use My eBay.Learn how to enable
JavaScript."
So it looks as if that is one often used site which is now ruled out for

Double-clicking on text in the Google writeable icon
by Roger Darlington
Double-clicking the mouse button over text in the Google writeable
icon does not select the text so that the next letter I write in it
deletes the previous text.
This does work for the URL writeable icon, but not for the Google
search writeable icon.
Is it supposed to?
