[Netsurf-develop] Small type face in Hotlist
by Paul Sprangers
Dear all,
A few versions ago (I don't know exactly since when), my hotlist suddenly
got a very small and narrow type face - virtually illegible, at least for
my watery eyes. This type face didn't change since then.
I've set all of my fonts to the default values, both the size as well as
the faces. Do others suffer from the same problem, or am I the only one?
And, more importantly, how do I change the type face of the hotlist?
Kind regards,
Paul Sprangers

Sorry, I need to pay more attention.

Selection _was_ implemented in earlier versions eg (29 Jun 2006 23:45)
together with a full range of editing keys (ctrl-a, ctrl-x, ctrl-v,
delete-left, delete-right). However, neither selection, nor any of those
editing keys work in (28 Jul 2006 16:45) or subsequent builds.
Presumably only a matter of time before the keys are reinstated?

[Netsurf-develop] riscos/bitmap.c bitmap_maintain 615
by Tony Moore
Using recent versions of NetSurf, I sometimes become aware that the
hard-drive activity light is flashing regularly, at intervals of about
80cs. This happens only after using NetSurf for some time, but I have
not been able to discover the trigger.
!OpenFile confirms that the NetSurf is writing its Log and, after a
recent session, I found more than 30,000 instances of
riscos/bitmap.c bitmap_maintain 615: Performing maintenance.
I'd be pleased to email the Log file (30K zipped) to anyone who may be
interested (but I'd rather not have to upload to the bug-tracker).

[Netsurf-develop] Secure Pages problem
by Bryn Evans
Before I raise a formal Bug Tracker report I thought I would check to
see if it is 'just me'?
Since the upgrade of NetSurf to cope with Style Sheets I have been
unable to complete any financial transactions via https web pages.
This first showed with PayPal, which I was not too bothered about as I
only rarely use it, and after the kerfuffle with their new T&C
acknowlegement, I am even less so.
However, this week I needed to upgrade my details with ISP
'Free-online.Net' ( branch of PlusNet)
and find it impossible to log into the secure section. My last access
was in January.
The open pages of this site load quickly and fully with no problems -
I am on Dial-Up -
But as soon as I go to the secure pages everything slows to a crawl.
Lots of errors occur such as 'errror loading object', 'SSL timedout'
and 'failed after 30xxx millisec'
During all this Style sheets are loading and then the message
'Converting xxx bytes' appears for what appears to be up to 40 odd
seconds at a time.
Finally 'loading xx objects' takes for ever then 'processing page'
starts.
A few seconds after this NetSurf disappears from the Icon bar with a
continuous Hour Glass.
PayPal behaviour is similar.
Inspection of the Log shows 'Termination signal received: Broken pipe'
as the final entry
Throughout the log there are many listings of the ISP's secure
certificate.
IS it me?

[Netsurf-develop] hotlist name
by Tony Moore
Some time ago, the name of a new Hotlist entry was taken from the title
of the page, but now the name of the entry is the same as the page url.
Is that intended? For me, it was better the way it was.
Editing the text of the name, or url, of a Hotlist entry is less easy,
since the only available editing key now seems to be delete-left. I had
thought that one could drag-select, and overtype the selection?

[Netsurf-develop] Today's build
by Dave & Sue Lawson
Recently I sent a bug report in about fatal errors and crashes since
mid July on RO 4.02. I have installed today's build and all the
problems I reported seem to be cured.
Well done and many thanks to all.

http://login.yahoo.com/config/mail?.intl=uk&.lg=uk can be used to log
into a mail account at yahoo.co.uk. The domains match, so no problem.

[Netsurf-develop] Unordered list items obscured by bullet point
by Christopher Bazley
Hello,
I am posting this to the mailing list because my knowledge of CSS is
not great enough to understand whether this problem is actually a
NetSurf bug or just caused by a bad style sheet.
On the right-hand side of the web page at
http://www.pointofinquiry.org there is are three unordered lists with
headings 'Program Information', 'Program Archives' and 'Links'. The
text of each item is partially obscured by a bullet point that is
offset slightly downward and to the right, relative to the start of
the text.
Having experimented with editing a local copy of this page and its
style sheet, I discovered that I can fix the horizontal position of
the bullet points by commenting out the 'padding' specified by the
following rule (line 417):
#sidebar ul ul li, #sidebar ul ol li {
margin: 3px 0 0;
padding: 0;
}
Is this something that can be improved in NetSurf, or is the style
sheet making unjustified assumptions?
Cheers,

Please post on the NetSurf mailing list with the exact address of the
Yahoo login page you are using.
Best regards,

Dear Michael
In response to the above, I tell you that the address I tried to log
into was :-
http://mail.yahoo.co.uk
-: It is not a very confidential mailing list, and I would give you
the ID and password if you want them, but you haven't asked for them.
I only downloaded Netsurf yesterday afternoon and I am very
inexperienced and I may not have got it right.
Thank you for SEEKING OUT my problems.
Regards
Michael Bell

OK, thanks.
This is because they are trying to set domain cookies for ".yahoo.com"
from "edit.europe.yahoo.com" and NetSurf is being strict and not
allowing it.
For now you should be able to work around this by logging in at
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/
You might need to tick "Remember my ID on this computer" (I did).
After logging in click on the small link that says "Yahoo!" at the top
right of the Yahoo! Groups page. This takes you to the main Yahoo
front page where you can click "My Mail" and you should be able to get
to your mail form there, without needing to log in again.
Best regards,
Michael Drake (tlsa)
*************************************
Yes, this WORKED! Thank you very much. An ordinary user like me can
never hope to develop the knowledge and skill to sort this kind of
thing out.
I didn't need to tick "Remember my ID on this computer" - Am I being
needlessly twitchy about this? Nobody else has access to this
computer. But that's my problem, not yours.
I am handling this message on Messenger. I tried to reply by clicking
"Reply to sender", my plan, of course, was to to delete all other
posts but mine and your answer to it so that I could refer to them,
but I could only see and delete the first post. Am I meant to handle
replies in a different way? Is this a Messenger problem or yours?
I have worked round this problem by saving the whole thing to a blank
e-mail form, but you don't want to do that every day!
I downloaded NetSurf to a directory called NetSurf, in which there
sits !NetSurf itself, surrounded by all the things, mostly !Boot
modifications, necessary to make it work, like iconv/_latest/zip,
netsurf/zip, ..etc.
Should I now delete all these add-ins, delete the directory it is in
and put !NetSurf "naked" directly onto the root, ADFS::HardDisc4.$ ?
That is a very ignorant question, what level of skill should the
instructions assume?

Michael Bell
