[Netsurf-develop] Download overwrite
by Sendu Bala
Netsurf currently doesn't allow you to overwrite an existing zip file
with another (if you have SparkFS presumably) because of it won't
overwrite a directory with the same name as a file.
However the save just plain fails and you get no option to rename the
save and try again; instead you lose any download progress you had and
have to start again. Can this be changed?
On the other hand it will happily overwrite an existing normal file;
can we get a warning as per directory overwrite (but again, allow us to
change the name and try again)?
On a related note, can I echo the request that's come up in the past
for a more sane choice of what the downloaded file will be called? Just
using the name of the file on the server would be completely ideal. The
current implementation comes up with some completely unpredictable
stuff!
eg.
http://ovh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/arcem/arcem-1.00-riscos.zip
becomes
00_riscos
http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/freedos.img.bz2
becomes
qemu freedos img
(and since the type of the file becomes text, when you come back to the
file later you have no idea what filetype it's supposed to be if you
don't know your headers)

[Netsurf-develop] Window open position
by Sendu Bala
In Neturf you can do Utilities->Window->Set as default position but
this only applies to the first window opened in a session. Any
subsequent new windows open at the next vertical offset. Can this be
changed so that adjust-click windows offset themselves, but new windows
from the iconbar open in the default position?
Also, can the vertical offset take (better) account of if the next
offset would cause the window to cover the iconbar, and if so start
from the highest offset instead? And can the highest offset be higher
(the top of the screen?) as well?
Finally, how about adding in a horizontal offset as well? I mentioned
before that this would let it behave like the filer, but a better
reason is that if the new window offsets lower you can bring the old
window back to the front with a single click. If it offsets higher,
however, you have to do two clicks or a drag+click to see the old
window again.
This isn't a problem for most RISC OS applications because you can only
open a new document window by either using its iconbar icon or loading
one of its files - a new window opens when you're no longer paying
attention or directly using the old window. Netsurf needs to break
style guide and be like the filer - both of them let you open new
windows from the old ones; because new window appear at an offset of
the old one it is therefore impossible for you to arrange for the old
window not to be covered by the new one. (For all other RISC OS
applications if you want to keep a certain window visible you move it
somewhere 'nice', away from the default opening position so that new
windows won't cover it - you do this without even thinking about it.)

[Netsurf-develop] Infinite loop?
by Jan-Jaap van der Geer
Iyonix, RO5.08, Netsurf 26 Mar 2005 01:15
I tried looking for something on www.imdb.com, but after the
search NetSurf seems to remain in an infinite loop. Or if it isn't,
it is taking a very long time...
All I did was going to the main page, type in 'Linklater' in the
searchbox at the left, press Enter (just tried the mouse: Same
effect). The results appear, together with the hourglass. And this
remains, it never seems to get ready.
First time I tried, it seemed to work, but since then it gets into
this loop every single time. But I do think it possibly doesn't
happen *every* time. Not sure though. Last 10 times or so it got
into this loop.
I did notice that while loading the initial page, NetSurf
complained something about an invalid JPEG. Not sure if this has
anything to do with it though.
Cheers,
Jan-Jaap

[Netsurf-develop] NetSurf Metal Theme
by Richard Spencer
I've uploaded a simple NetSurf theme (just a Spritefile) at
http://www.richardspencer.freeuk.com/ns_metal.zip
To install, drag the !NetSurf dir over the top of your application,
select Choices from the iconbar>Themes>Metal, quit and reload.
Based on MIT's Galeon project's Remembrance theme, with an original
throbber I'm getting to like :-)
Please let me know likes or dislikes. The whole thing is very beta and
will be adapted as Netsurf grows/changes.

[Netsurf-develop] NS crash on BBC News site
by Andrew C. Poole
Hi,
Today's build of NetSurf (09 Apr 2005 10:00) appears to quit out when
opening the BBC News website. It doesn't give an error, just disapears.
I've put the stderr file up at
http://www.andrewpoole.org.uk/nstemp/stderr.txt
Cheers,
Andy.

[Netsurf-develop] New templates - problem?
by Graham Pegg
Hello.
The latest versions of NetSurf seem to have a problem with templates
- at least on my StrongArm Risc PC running Risc OS 3.7.
When I open the browser window the left half is obscured by what looks
like a blank textured window background (it also covers the title and
scroll bars!)
This has only happened with versions after 5th April.
Any suggestions?
Graham

[Netsurf-develop] Not all images displaying in 'Full-saved' local pages
by Simon Smith
http://texlib.povray.org/wood-browsing_1.html and others contain a useful
resource for the PoVRay ray tracer.
Do a shift-F3 Full Save on one of the Browse by Category windows and you
will have a nice local applet called !wood_browsing_1 (or similar) with the
nine wood textures from that page neatly displayed.
Except that whenever you double-click the local file !wood_browsing_1 and
load it into Netsurf, the final wood image of the nine does not display,
whether on or off-line. (Samples affected are DMFWood4 on page 1, TWood11 on
page 2, T_Wood2 on page 3 and so on.) This effect triggers the second time
you try to view one of these pages, and is consistently true for all the
sample pages that have nine images.
Fault apparent in Netsurf version 03/04/05 and today's 08/04/05
All cached pages display all pictures correctly in Oregano 2. When accessing
the on-line URL in Netsurf all is well.
Odd.

[Netsurf-develop] Netsurf problems
by David H Wild
1. Go to www.gunjee.com.
Click to enter and then click on link to pictures.
Click on one of the events at the top of the list, and you will get a
panel of twentyfive pictures.
Click on the third, or subsequent, picture. You will get a little row
of five pictures across the top of the screen, and the hourglass will come
on for the large picture - but it won't stop, and the only way out is to
click alt-break to stop NetSurf. It worked up to three weeks ago.
2. I have a "mini website" created using PicIndex. Using Netsurf on this
brings up two problems.
The index pictures (231 of them) can be made to appear only by pressing
the reload button several times.
The HTML for each picture allows you to move backwards and forwards by
clicking on the right or left side of the picture. For landscape pictures,
moving back doesn't work until I drag the window out just a little bit
further although I have clicked to "maximise" the window.
I am sure that this was cured once, but seems to have slipped back in.

On my Iyo not the same problems as described.
Clicking on the pictures results in correct views.
However, the download of clips gives problems: clicking on a download-link
with a left mouse-click freezes with a hourglass.
Needs alt-break.
Clicking with a right mouse-click starts the download correct, but freezes at
99% and need alt-break
