But on the other hand, you'd always have to drag it somewhere, which
means always keeping that filer window visible. I often rely on the
location being remembered after the first time I drag, and then
appreciate a very fast method of saving, eg. ctrl-f3-return.
The proposed drag feature would certainly be a very neat feature though.

[Netsurf-develop] FTP
by Stefan Bellon
I have set up a proxy for http and for ftp on my server. However, I
cannot make use of it properly with NetSurf. When I enable the HTTP
proxy for NetSurf, ftp:// URLs are not properly fetched. They are tried
to fetch via the HTTP proxy which ends up in requests for
http://ftp://ftp.domain.org/directory/file which doesn't work of course.
Even if FTPc is loaded, NetSurf tries to fetch FTP URLs itself.
Could the present behaviour be changed to one of the following two:
a) Addition of a FTP proxy, different from the HTTP proxy.
b) Broadcast of FTP URL fetches to see whether some other already loaded
application wants to handle them and only try to fetch them if none
is found.
What do you think?

[Netsurf-develop] Save image shortcut
by David J. Ruck
Would it be possible to have a save image short cut ala !Browse where you
press Ctrl+F3 when the mouse if over an image/object and you get a save box
of it.
Cheers

[Netsurf-develop] Map element
by David Pitt
Hi,
Using !NetSurf test build (08 Dec 2004 12:45).
I could not find any reference to this in the documentation, or sorry if
I missed it. This page causes NetSurf to exit the iconbar leaving the
HourGlass running.
http://gccsdk.riscos.info/gcc/mail-archive/gcc/2004/2811.html
NetSurf objected to these lines:-
<map id="navbar" name="navbar">
</map>
<map id="navbarfoot" name="navbarfoot" title="Related messages">
</map>
Removing just those four lines from a local copy of the page but leaving
the content within the map elements solved the problem.
I have saved the stderr.
O2 and WebsterXL were OK.
Many thanks.

[Netsurf-develop] NetSurf crashes and SharedUnixLibrary
by David J. Ruck
Apologies for not posting to the "NetSurf hanging on startup" thread, as I've
only just joined and dont have any to reply to.
Some of the crashing problems described are similar to my experience and
started to occurr at the same time. I have now traced the problem to a faulty
version of the SharedUnixLibrary which was supplied with GCC 3.4.1. It has
the same version number 1.02 (3 Nov 2002) but has incorrect SWI chunk number,
so will not function correctly applications that require it such as NetSurf.
To check, load !System.310.Modules.SharedULib in to !Zap and if the SWI chunk
base entry is not &55C80 delete it, and replace with the copy from chocky's
porting page. http://www.chocky.org/unix/downloads/support/system.zip
Don't just use Configure's system merge as because the rogue module has the
same version number and a later date, it wont be overwritten with the correct
module.
Cheers

[Netsurf-develop] incremental redraw
by tony moore
A suggestion:
An Google image search returns one or more pages of thumbnail
images, but NetSurf does not display a page until all its images
have been fetched. Using a slow connection, this can take some
time, and it may well then be found that the search did not
produce what was wanted, after all. This could possibly have
been seen if each image were displayed as soon as decoded.
A screen redraw can be forced, before the page is complete, by
clicking on the 'Scale view' button and clicking on 'Scale'
(without altering the scale factor) but it would be simpler if
Netsurf were to redraw the screen to show each decoded image,
while waiting for the next image to be fetched.

[Netsurf-develop] URL copy
by John Cartmell
1. With Fresco it is possible to drag the URL off the input window and drop
it in any WP/editing document. This is very quick and handy and ensures
that printed references are guaranteed correct. Is it possible to implement
this behaviour in Netsurf.
2. If you have to quit Netsurf using Alt-Break the application won't load
back because 'It's already loaded". Is there a quick and easy way to avoid
the problem?

[Netsurf-develop] Suggestion - local fetching only, eg for emails
by Ewen Pring
Dear list,
Following on from some discussions on the Messenger Pro mailing list
about HTML email handling, I would like to suggest - if it hasn't been
already - a feature request:
The ability for Netsurf to fetch only local files when rendering a
page. And, some way in which this 'local mode' could be invoked by
another application when opening an HTML file (in my case, double
clicking on a HTML email attachment in the email client Messenger Pro).
By local, I think I mean fetching only files with relative references
(e.g. A HREF="../image.gif") not http:, https: internet protocols etc.
The main reason for the request is so that users with always-on internet
connections can safely view an HTML email, without fear that someone
(usually a spammer) has placed links to files on the internet for
malicious purposes.
Kind regards
Ewen

[Netsurf-develop] DataSave messages ignored
by John Duffell
Hi,
Netsurf seems to ignore DataSave (1) messages meaning that I can't drag (say)
a URL file from Oregano to Netsurf, but I can save the file and then drag it
from the filer to Netsurf, as it takes note of DataOpen messages. Looking at
the source it doesn't seem to have a case statement for DataOpen.
Thanks,

Given time, yes it is intended to be implemented. At the moment though,
it's quite low on my priority list until I've finished the global history
and URL auto-completion.
