[Netsurf-develop] Google and Radio Buttons Problem
by James Sargent
Sorry if this has been reported before ...
I've just downloaded the latest build of Netsurf to test this (dated 16
Dec @ 20.45).
When searching on Google at http://www.google.co.uk/ I can change the
radio buttons for "the Web" / "the UK". However, after doing a search
and getting a results page, it's no longer possible to change (or
select) either of the radio buttons.
Is this a problem, have I missed something or do I have dodgy setup?
Merry Christmas to all!
Rgds,
James

[Netsurf-develop] non-crashing of NetSurf at website
by Dr Peter Killworth
I'd reported the consistent crashing of NetSurf when trying to access
webmail.soc.soton.ac.uk with the SSL flag set to 0. While I have no idea
why it does it on my work RiscPC 4.02 (and neither do Those Who Know),
I can confirm it doesn't do it on my Alpha running VRPC at home (though it
takes for*ever* to load the site compared with Micro$oft Explorer, admittedly
over a phone line).
While I'm probably the only one who ever needs to access this site (!), I'd
be grateful if anyone else could report getting a crash with it... otherwise
I'll have to assume "it's a rogue module" or some such.

[Netsurf-develop] Change to !Run
by Dom
Would it be possible to change !Run to redirect
stderr to <scrap$dir>.netsurferrors or somewhere
similar? Then the application can be set read-only
Cheers

[Netsurf-develop] Icons
by Gavin Wraith
Providing a file_faf sprite in a browser seems fairly
pointless nowadays, seeing that most users will already
have such a sprite provided with their version of RISC OS,
and locked to prevent being overwritten. The same goes for
most filetype icons. Still, it does no harm, and some
people like to collect alternative sprites, or design their
own. On the other hand, providing a full _coherent_ set
of filetype icons is a job for a professional. I think
Richard Hallas did a good job for RISC OS 5.

Please reply to the list, not me direct, thanks.

We asked Richard about this some time ago, I can't recall, however, what
the outcome (if any) actually was. Michael Drake probably knows the answer
(he seems to have a better memory then me ;)

[Netsurf-develop] Current library versions
by Dom
I've just started having a go at cross-compiling on Linux.
I managed to get it to compile but the resulting code is a bit
unstable. On my first compile I managed to get it to draw Netsurf
on the intro page then crash and sometimes to load part of the
google page before a reset was needed.
A make clean; make; later and now it just says nsfont_paint: (u)
font_paint failed.
I'm guessing the libraries I've hacked together and linked against
are the wrong versions (I had to make a couple of changes to function
prototypes to get it to compile, changing int back to size_t somewhere
so am guessing I must be on a different version).
Please could someone point me at the reference version of libraries to
use as I can't find these listed anywhere on the site, and perhaps
where to obtain these if this is difficult to find, for instance
where is the official home of libcares?
Cheers

[Netsurf-develop] SSL certificates again
by Dr Peter Killworth
I tried the workaround of setting the relevant parameter
(ssl_verify_certificates)
to 0. Accessing webmail.soc.soton.ac.uk now just crashes
netsurf, leaving the hourglass on... not really an improvement!
Can I ask for a proper solution soon please? A bit silly when the website
I access most remains inaccessible with Netsurf.
Happy Xmas to all the readers!

OTOH, it is a work in progress, so it will all be fine soon. And if CSS
works, the Box thing I've just discovered helps tables lots. As does
COLGROUP, which I've also just found. Which seems to be a HTML 4.0
thing, but which enables me to define column widths the way I want
them, rather than by each individual cell.
http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/tables.html
Works in IE, not on RISC OS. Assume it works in Firebird too, but as
the latter causes my PC to crash when I access it via RDP (The only way
I do access it), I've uninstalled it.
Anyway, NetSurf seems to be progressing, which is a lot more than can
be said of either of the Oreganos. All that needs to happen now is that
the dev team decide to start selling it, and it'll wither on the vine
too...
Cheers
Mike
