[Netsurf-develop] Problems with Netsurf
by hedleyh@arcade.demon.co.uk
My system is a RiscPC 600 with SA233, running RISC OS 4.29 (Select) and
I have 128MB of RAM installed.
I have now downloaded the latest copy of Netsurf, dated 08 Nov 2003,
from your website. On 5 Nov I had downloaded the previous version
together with acornuri100/zip and system/zip.
!Sysmerge merged the !System file produced from acornuri100/zip but
ignored the one produced from system/zip, although I tried several times.
I had used Spark to unzip the archives. When I double clicked on Netsurf
to load it, I got an error message telling me the module SharedULib could
not be found. I found it together with DRenderer in !System.310.Modules
inside the unzipped system/zip so manually copied both these into my
main !System.310.Modules, re-booted the machine and tried again to load
Netsurf.
At the time I got the error message 'String not understood', but I am
pleased to say that the latest copy of Netsurf loads to the icon bar
fine. However, I still can't get Netsurf to do anything on line.
I normally use either WebsterXL or Fresco, with Dialup and MessengerPro.
Using Webster I key or drag a URL into the address slot and hit Enter.
Dialup then askes if I wish to go on line, so I click 'Yes' and away it
goes. Using Fresco I key in the URL, click Dialup to go on line then
click the URL followed by Enter.
Neither of these approaches works with Netsurf. The text 'Document
done' comes straight back and the initial page remains. I tried to use
the Google search facility by typing in a keyword and clicking on Go.
Nothing happened.
It responds to clicks on the documentation items which are included,
but will fetch nothing which involves going on line, even though I have
already logged on with Dialup. Eventually, after various attempts at
this sort of thing, Dialup says the line has been idle for some time,
should it hang up, so I click 'Yes' to avoid further waste of time
(and expense) on line.
Any suggestions for further tests will be welcomed.
