My bad. Yes, these calls were introduced in GTK 2.8. You can access
these settings via properties, which I'll try, which will hopefully mean
it'll work under earlier versions.
They're non-essential, and may be safely commented out if you'd like to
play with it. (They just control the appearance of the URL completion
